The northern region of the bowl is dominated by the Salt Flats, a vast, flatland of various evaporites. Natrium, gypsum, phosphorus, and other ingredients for magic and industry are found in the area, and exploited for profit. Travel between towns is done mostly via carefully maintained and mapped routes. Unexplored parts of the Flats aren’t necessarily dangerous, but water and food are scarce. Moving goods, generally more than one can carry on one’s person and one pack animal, results in legal repercussions, unless the person is in possession of a trading permit. Because of the mercantile background of the area, such cases are taken quite seriously. The legal center of the region is the city of Nitre.
The Salt Flats contain the Bonesplinters and the Warrens. The flats are bounded by the Varoe Mountains to the north, the Hornsickle to the west, and the Golden Apex and Elins Fields to the south and east. The Bonesplinters are a relatively uninhabited forest home to a few goblin and kobold tribes. The Warrens are the ancestral home of the ratfolk.
